こんにちは, gentle readers![*]

As you may recall, my journal entry from Tuesday featured three pictures of the sakura that were taken on my Toyama outing that morning. The post ended with a promise of more, if there was interest. That interest has been expressed, so here I am to make good on that promise! Please to be enjoying!

Sakura, sakura everywhere!

(click on any picture in this post to see the full-sized version)

Besides the lovely cherry blossom, there is a gorgeous plum blossom tree on the right!

Another close up!

This statue in the park caught my eye -- more on it below!

Change of perspective -- looking up from the ground!

The road goes ever on and on...

As mentioned above, the statue of the girl in the park grabbed my attention, being beautifully framed by a halo of petals and blossoms. That said, I have absolutely no idea who she is or why this statue is there. There was no signage present and, even if there were, I doubt that I would have been able to read it! Thus, dear friends, I am offering one thousand points to the first person with Google-Fu strong enough to solve the mystery and uncover her secrets! Happy hunting!

Now then, tis off to bed for this Nomad! The T2K collaboration meeting -- latest in a popular series -- begins in the morning!

Btw, _veronica_milvus_ posted this Elizabeth Jennings poem just after you'd posted this and I thought you might enjoy, what with you being a bell ringer an' all!

Bell-Ringer

The bells renew the town, discover it
And give it back itself again, the man
Pulling the rope collects the houses as
Thoughts gather in the mind unscanned, he is
Crowding the town together from the night
And making bells the morning, in remote

Control of every life (for bells shout 'Wake'
And shake our dreams, though it is he who pulls
The sleep aside). But not into his thought
Do men continue as in lives of power;

For when each bell is pulled sufficiently
He never sees himself as any cause
Or need; the sounds had left his hands to sing
A meaning for each listening separately,
A separate meaning for the single choice.

Yet bells retire to silence, need him when
Time must be shown a lucid interval
And men look up as if the air were full
Of birds descending, bells exclaiming in
His hands but shouting wider than his will.

Oh! How lovely -- thank you for posting that! *big smiles*

The first photo in particular, with the blossom-covered branches leaning over the neatly contained (how Japanese!) stream - that would make a lovely "desktop wallpaper". (I'd steal it, except mine is a shot of the top of the Empire State Building, lit up in shades of purple, against a starry sky.)

The girl is, indeed, a conundrum, especially since she's wearing a Western-style dress, holding up a bouquet that doesn't look especially Japanese either, and her position suggests classical (European) ballet.

The first photo in particular [...] would make a lovely "desktop wallpaper".

Yay! Very glad that you like! It is lovely, isn't it?

I'd steal it, except mine is a shot of the top of the Empire State Building, lit up in shades of purple, against a starry sky.

Clearly, then, this is just a sign that you need to get a second computer, so that you can have two desktop pictures! ;-D

Actually, speaking of this, I have an upcoming post with a picture that you, in particular, will enjoy. Not saying more just yet, but wait and see!

The girl is, indeed, a conundrum

*nods* She really is. Still makes for a pretty photo, though.

I do, indeed, need another computer! I bought this one new in 1997, and it's only a Pentium II, 300mHz, with a woefully weak video chip (not even a video card). Still, if I had a better machine, I could use this one as the household fileserver.

I may be a bit distracted in the near future, but I'll make a point of checking your entries for more delightful pictures :-)

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

*sigh* Yes, I imagine that you might be a bit distracted in the coming weeks. I've read your update... I'm just at a loss for anything helpful to say. It isn't fair and it sucks. The one silver lining is that, as you say, the prognosis is very good. So you are still on track for opening that birthday card in 2047! *smile*

Meanwhile, I will make the mys-TEEEER-ious post today, so that you don't have to keep checking. And also because you might need something that could make you smile.

I'll be okay. I bought this t-shirt (http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29_55&products_id=434) - I wish I'd known it existed before I was nearly done with radiation treatments last year. I know the LINAC techs, and probably the radiation oncologist herself, will get a giggle out of it. (And, since it's the proper "magenta" and yellow, I won't have a problem wearing it with purple leggings!)

Yes, I'm still looking forward to reading that card in 2047. Don't buy me one for 2147 yet, though... the paper would probably deteriorate by then :-D

Your travel photos, and many of your other posts, always make me smile!

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Ooooh, excellent shirt! I like!

Also: Hope you enjoy the latest journal entry! Is posted now... and you even get mentioned! :-D

From: [identity profile] acelightning.livejournal.com

United Nuclear has some shirts with the classic "atom" design on them, as well as one that says "Want to see my Death Ray?" - and they'll also sell you the parts to build a Death Ray :-)

Yes, I see your newest post, and I've already commented on it! Thank you!!!

Death Ray Parts (http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=27_82)! Including the t-shirt (http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=27_82&products_id=582), and a nifty warning sign (http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=27_82&products_id=585).

Access? Am confused now. You clearly have Internet access, else you wouldn't be posting. How have you not access to copy photos, then? *scratches head*

P.S. As for searching, you have plenty of time. No one else has figured out who the girl is yet, either. Including yours truly!

From: [identity profile] bloodsong1.livejournal.com

Here's the message I get when I click on the statue picture:

You don't have permission to access /~mmalek/pictures/LJ/Sakura/Sakura-07.JPG on this server.

EVERY other picture I can access. Is most strange!

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Aha! Thank you for explaining! For some reason this picture -- and only this picture -- did not have its permissions set to make it viewable. Not sure why it ended up as an anomaly... but, thanks you to you, I have been able to fix the problem!

Go ahead and copy it now, hon. It should be just fine...

*hugs*

From: [identity profile] bloodsong1.livejournal.com

Huzzah! *steals*

Hey, there's writing on that statue! However, I cannot read kanji and it's toward the back of the base. Does anyone else see this?

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Aha! Good eye you have there! I'd not noticed the writing myself -- either in the picture or on the statue itself!

Hmmmmm... Perhaps we now have a clue!

Bedtime for me now, too. Hope you are sleeping well, Beloved.

Wow. Fantastic. I hope you don't mind, but methinks I'll be stealing...er saving these as back grounds. May even save them at home (I have win 7 at home), then I can have the backgrounds change through these pics :)

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Hee hee! "Mind"? You are sooooo adorable, sweetie! *big smiles* Of course I don't mind, hon! Steal away!

Indeed, I rather like the idea of you using them as backgrounds for your computer at home. Gives you -- and your awesometacular housemates -- something to remember me by when I'm not in town. *wink*

statue

I love a good google challenge, but it defeated me(for now), the only thing I can guess at is it's a random memorial to unit 731 crimes.
I love white tree blossom at a glance I can almost convince myself it's snow and still winter and not spring which is my worst time of year

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Re: statue

Indeed. Don't feel bad, though... as it has also defeated everybody else. Including me! Is all good -- and thank you for trying!

Also, I agree that the sakura in bloom do have a striking resemblance to pure white snow. Very glad you enjoyed the pictures! Yay!

From: [identity profile] stormdog.livejournal.com

The first picture especially is really nicely composed and just amazes me. I love the stone walls of the river banks. The sakura are so pretty. I really need to at least get to DC sometime to see the blossoms there. I'm planning go get further afield than that eventually, but DC is an approachable goal at this point in my life.

What's the name of the park the girl is in? Is it in Toyama?

I'm so out of practice on my 日本語. I've been too busy with Español. This Summer I'm going to spend some time at least working on kanji again. It won't help with grammar, but if I can learn a big bunch of kanji from flashcards, it'll be a big help once I sit down and work on the nuts and bolts of the language again. I want to keep up with Spanish too, since I'm not going to have time to take more Spanish courses next semester. But with Spanish, I've gotten to the point, I think, where I can keep learning on my own via reading.

But I digress. Thank you for more wonderful pictures. I hope to share more of mine after I get through with finals in a few weeks!

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

*smile* Very glad that you like, my friend! I agree that the first picture is the most striking of the set. That's why it is the one that I did not put beneath the cut. Even if somebody chooses not to click, they at least get treated to that shot of beauty.

My friend, I very much hope that you get the chance to see the sakura in Washington DC soon... and in Japan eventually! I know that you will love it!

To answer your question about the statue: The girl is in Matsu River Park, in Toyama. No one has been able to find out anything about her, though. Which is fine. There is no burning need to know. It just seemed like a fun challenge.

Looking forward to seeing more of your pictures once your exams are over. Good luck with them!!

From: [identity profile] cheshcat.livejournal.com

Which park was the statue in? Toyama Castle or Matsu River Park? Was she made of bronze?

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

The Mastu River Park, I think. It's a little unclear where one begins and another ends, as we were mainly just walking along the river and passed the castle on the way.

And, yes, I think that she is made of bronze...

P.S. Are you awake now, Beep-Face?

P.P.S. Do keep in mind that there's no reason to want to know this, except as a challenge. So don't knock yourself out trying to find the answer, Sweetie-Mips. Is no practical value -- just for fun!

P.P.S. Love you waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
