As far as BiCon goes, I hope that you can make it. For one thing, I would like to actually meet you! I completely understand if you cannot, however. As you say, sometimes other things just have to take priority. A new baby in the house is definitely an excellent excuse!
yep, I'm under MankyLarry as I used to play in a band called Manky. My enthusiasm waxes and wanes with Bicon, i like meeting people i haven't seen for a while, but apart from that three isn't really that much that inspires me. When I went to my first BiCon in '96, it seemed a bit bizarre to me, a bit like a vicars tea party, and a throwback to the goth scene from the early to mid 80's. No offenseto anyone, its just that i was used to radical anarchist and student political (Anti Section 28, Alton Bill, Poll Tax, Class War, Reclaim the streets, ) events and conferences, so found Bicon a bit odd. As for the goth stuff, i'd played in a post punk band in the early 80's, so it felt a bit like one of those canvey island type events where the aging teds and rockers go. However i gave it a shot and got involved for a number of years, and did a few things ( Did the ents at BiCon 98 & 2000, was a core team member for the 2000 BiCon and 6th Inernational BiCon doing the progrmming, instigated and co-edited the first anthology of bisexual erotica, attended the 5th international bicon at harvard [now that was inspiring] and the first andsecond european bisexual conferences in rotterdam and dublin respectively, set up and co moderate the Euro-Binet [european bi activists network] and uk bi-research list ) but i just felt like i was pissing in the wind most of the time, where the uk bicon is concerned, im spikey not fluffy. So there's part of me that feels little bit energised that there's a BiReCon (But a bit wary, as i'm bored rigid with turgid queer theory, )and also that it's an international conference and there might be a few other people who i might have a few things in common with who might refresh my enthusiasm for networking, I'd love to see Hilde again. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised but i've been disappointed too many times, reading a bicon programme to see that there's very little that i want to go to and i've spent near enough £200 for the privalege, money which would be better spent visiting my Sons great grandma in Bosnia. I also want to try and spend what times left re-focussing my energies in actism related to motor neurone disease see www.mnd2010.org/home as unfortunately i've got MND and evry second of everyday is precious. Anyway Comrade if we don't meet each other in person it's been a pleasure to meet a likeminded spirit online.
