The Nomad 2009 Decemberween Tour is proceeding well. It should -- and hopefully shall -- receive its own write up about my travels in New Jersey and Boston over the past three days. Now, though, with Christmas over and done with, the amount of time spent with family is easing up... and the social time with friends is just beginning!
To that end, this post is about a couple of upcoming social events -- one in New York City and the other in Chicagoland[*] -- that are open to all those on my f-list. Interested in joining one? Read on!
Tuesday December 29th (New York City):
My tradition of taking a day in December to romp about Manhattan and see my city all decked out for the holidays goes back further than I can remember. Nowhere else that I know of does Christmas decorating the way that New York City does it! In recent years, the adorable
squeektoy42 and I have started doing this together, bringing along anyone who wished to join us!
Over the course of an evening, we hit Radio City Music Hall (viewing from outside), Rockefeller Center (viewing the tree and the ice rink, though last year there was also skating involved), Saks (the story windows, as well as the incredible sound-and-light performance of Carol of the Bells), Macy's (again for the story windows), and Lord & Taylor's (ditto the story windows). Besides those staples, we often stroll through Times Square or head up to Central Park. In the unlikely event that there are good theatre tickets available at the TKTS window, taking in a show is also possible.
This year, we expect to begin in mid-afternoon, meeting up a couple of hours before dark in Madison Square Park to feed peanuts to the squirrels there. Then we will grab some lunch for ourselves to pass the time until night falls. After that, the above itinerary is a good estimation of where we shall go and what we shall do. Besides myself and
squeektoy42, I assume that her husband, A, will be joining us. There have also been expressions of interest from the lovely
perspicacious and
theentwife. Anyone else care to join us? Leave a comment or send me an e-mail to let me know -- you are more than welcome to come along for this year's fun!
Friday January 1st and Saturday January 2nd (Chicago):
The original plan for these dates, made round the bonfire at the Event Horizon party back in July, was to see the Neo-Futurists perform their comedy classic Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind on Friday night, followed by catching a performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday night. Alas, I am informed by the charming
emrldgirrl that there will be no TMLMTBGB on January 1st. Boo!!
This leaves plans for Friday in a bit of a bind. Nature abhors a vacuum... and so do I when it involves scheduling! Thus, I am thinking of either a Lazer Tag outing in Downer's Grove or a karaoke night in Chicago at Sidekick's. Anyone up for one of these options? Both of them??
Saturday plans are unaffected, of course. In the afternoon, starting around the usual time of 13:00, there will be a games party at the Event Horizon. Weather permitting, there will also be an outing to the nearby Morton Arboretum to see the trees in their Winter splendor. Given how much snow I have heard Chicago has received, this should be rather splendid, indeed! In the evening, the trek into the city to see Rocky Horror will happen. Gentle readers, you are welcome to join for all, some, or even just one of these happenings! As much fun as I expect all these events to be, the main thing is to see all of you, my dear friends! After I return to England in January[**], I do not expect to be back in the States for six months, until my Summer trip in July, so the more of you that I can see, the happier a Nomad I shall be!
[*] Michigan people, take note! There will be at least one -- maybe two -- cars going to and from Lansing to Chicago on January first... so feel free to join us if you are interested. Rides should be available!!

Joining later in the day is not a problem in the least. Indeed, around five is when things should start getting interesting, as the Dark will be upon us.
You have

P.S. Please give a scritch to the mother of my kitties for me! I can repay you in kind with scritches and pets tomorrow, if you like! ;-D

When I was a kid growing up on Long Island, my parents would always take me into the city to look at all the store windows (and Rockefeller Center, and anything else that happened to be decorated for the holidays), as part of my birthday celebration. It really is worth a trip just to see the decorations.
Oh, and here's the icon I made from your Stonehenge photo ;-)
