Guess what day it is today, gentle readers![*]

That's right! As I am sure everyone has marked in their calendars and has long been anticipating.... today is "Bohemian Rhapsody Day"!

Wow! It's hard to believe that a year has elapsed since the last one! Still, tis true! Bohemian Rhapsody Day comes but once a year!

As you may recall from last year, the appropriate way to celebrate this holiday is to listen to the Bohemian Rhapsody twelve times!

Won't you all join me in the remembrance of this joyous occasion? I will award five hundred points to anyone who comments letting me know that you, too, have honoured this most venerable of holidays![**] Additionally, a bonus of one hundred points can be won by anyone who posts about this in their own journal[***], thus spreading awareness of this important occasion!

And -- brand new for 2009 -- there are now more ways than ever to honour Bohemian Rhapsody Day! This year, the Muppets are getting into the act! Getting tired of the same old classic track by the time it comes around for the seventh or eighth time on your MP3 player? Why not liven things up a bit with this muppetational version:

I wish a very happy Bohemian Rhapsody Day to all of my dear friends!

[ETA: One hundred points have, thus far, been awarded to [livejournal.com profile] autumnquest, [livejournal.com profile] kittybeard, and [livejournal.com profile] blaisepascal for helping to spread the BRD love! Join the club!!]

[*] And please don't say "Wednesday"!

[**] The honour system is in effect here, people. Don't profane Bohemian Rhapsody Day by lying about this. I know these points are valuable, but still...

[***] Or Facebook, or whatever. The medium is not important! What matters is spreading the joy and love that Bohemian Rhapsody Day brings!

Yay muppets! Yay Bohemian Rhapsody! Yay Bohemian Rhapsody Day!! *grins wildly*

From: [identity profile] uberredfraggle.livejournal.com

Will do. It seems popular. 3 other friends have posted it and none of them are friends of yours. :D

Oh dear. Someone just linked me to this....

Pretty damn cool!

If you get bored today -- or just want some distraction from nervousness before your date -- check out the comments and links from last years Bohemian Rhapsody Day (linked above). People posted some of the most bizarre versions -- it was excellent!! *grins*

From: [identity profile] uberredfraggle.livejournal.com

Yes distraction from nervousness is good. I found a puppet one from 07.

I need to do some stuff to get ready for tonight and pop to the shops but apart from that I expect it will be a looooooooooong day.

Ooooh -- awesome! [livejournal.com profile] da_pupdetz would probably love it!

I didn't even know about Bohemian Rhapsody Day back in 2007! :-D

Tonight will be fine! *hugs*

Did you see this one?

I know. I'm just nervous. I just hope she enjoys herself.

Wow, is it that time of year already? I'm glad I'm out of hospital in time to celebrate. I had to convince the nurses that Bohemian Rhapsody was an important holiday, but they only listened once I started to sing... Strange really, as I'd only sung two bars when the nurses started pushing me out of the ward.

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

It is! Can you believe it!

Welcome back from Hospital Land, hon! *big hugs* It is strange how the nurses discharged you soon after you started celebrating. I never realised that Bohemian Rhapsody Day has serious medicinal potential! Awesome!!

*grins*

(I'm spreading my listens out this year. I'm up to three so far. Our beloved [livejournal.com profile] bunnypip and I started with the first one on the coach to London this morning...)

From: [identity profile] darkfloweruk.livejournal.com

I've heard that Bohemian Rhapsody was a popular alternative to aspirin during the 1970's.

And thanks for the hugs!

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

I might have to do some Serious Scientific ResearchTM into this! ;-D

As for the hugs? Anytime, hon, anytime! Hope to see you again in the not-too-distant future!!

From: [identity profile] acelightning.livejournal.com

Darn! I was hoping I could be the first person to delight you with Bohemian Muppetry. (Oh, well - at least I gave you the Asylum Street Spankers' version of "Mah-Nah Mah-Nah" just a little while ago. And, yes, the Snouths and Bip Bipadotta are in the Muppet BR.)

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

What can I say? Things move quick on Bohemian Rhapsody Day! *grin*

Actually, it should be no surprise that the person who brought it to my attention was [livejournal.com profile] onebrightroad. I'm pretty sure he has a cybernetic wireless 'net connection built in to the base of his brain stem...

Enjoy your listens on this most wonderful Bohemian Rhapsody Day! :-D

I don't know how it's going to be possible to top the Muppets, though... this may be The Ultimate Version Of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'...

"...but moi!"

Completely off-topic, but I just ran across a couple of rather nifty science/math-related sites. The first is the LHC Portal (http://www.lhcportal.com/) - it's back in operation, and busily colliding, and there's a whole bunch of information there. The other is a 3-D Mandelbrot Set (http://www.skytopia.com/project/fractal/mandelbulb.html) - the math is quite beyond me, but it's very pretty.

Queen FTW! Love love love all the BoRhap stuff that is happening today.
My favourite has always been the Comic Relief skit from the nineties (YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pRKA6lqsfg&feature=PlayList&p=EDABCA7E2C82C562&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=4)). That way I get so many of my favourite pop cultures icons all at once: P.G. Wodehouse, FRy & Laurie, and Queen Queen Queen! Not see that touted this year.

Love the muppets tho, of course.

*hugs*

That is awesome! Thanks for the link!!

And, yes, Bohemian Rhapsody Day is one of my favourite esoteric holidays! *grin* Adding Muppets make this year special, though! Because Muppets make nearly everything better!!

*returns your hugs... with interest!*

BWAH-HAH-HAAAH

::wipes eyes::

J and I were *howling* at this. We'd had no idea that it was Bohemian Rhapsody day, but I remember listening to the song on the way to my Aunt's on Thanksgiving many years ago (looks it up, it was 1991) and thinking of Freddy Mercury and being very sad. He'd left us on November 24th. Perhaps the 25th was 'Bohemian Rhapsody Day' then too.

I had no idea that Janice could jam on the guitar like that. ;-D

*grins wildly* Glad you and J both liked, hon! Any day started with a good laugh promises to be excellent, methinks!

Also, thanks for sharing your story from 1991. Hard to believe he's been gone for that long now! *hugs*

And, yes, Janice was really rocking away there! I wish my video conferences were half as much fun as theirs!! ;-D

From: [identity profile] chefmayhem.livejournal.com

That was fun, I always love to see Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band together again :)
Also, that last thing, with Kermit.... I want to do that now. Next T2K-SK meeting?

You said it! And this was really quite a jam session!

Also, that last thing, with Kermit.... I want to do that now. Next T2K-SK meeting?

Ooooooh -- I like the way that you think! Yes, definitely! I'll chip in to get an electric guitar for your adviser and we can put Kaneyuki-san on the drums! *grin*

Now that would keep me from falling asleep when the meeting stretches on until well past midnight!

I can't remember if you saw this last year, but LEGO Bohemian Rhapsody is so fun!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_15G_tIl38

I especially like the cast credits at the end, with special mention for 'Death's personal assistant'

*many bohemian hugs*

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

*giggles* I did see it last year... but thank you for re-posting! Had you not, I would have had no LEGOs in my 2009 Bohemian Rhapsody Day! And that would have truly been a shame!

*grins*

By the way, as BRD 2009 draws to a close, I must say that I feel healthy and vital now! Must be all those viewings today! ;-D

I just posted to my LJ a link to fifteen covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, in honor of BRD!

I'll watch them when I get home.

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

That's excellent, my friend!!

I've added your name to the honour roll in this post -- up above -- to mark this. I really like the link that you found, too!

Enjoy your viewings! You may have more variety in your Bohemian Rhapsody than anyone else that I know on the BRD! *grin*

From: [identity profile] lunarbitch.livejournal.com

Sadly, I inexplicably forgot to post in my LJ or FB. However, not only did I celebrate Bohemian Rhapsody Day, but I introduced my big brother to it as well as my 78 year old mom! I don't think mom really got it and my brother thought I was a little weird, but they seemed to thoroughly enjoy the plethora of Bohemian Rhapsody YouTubes I shared with them. I think I shall do this with them every year. Yay for a new family tradition!

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

That rocks sweetie! You have well earned your five hundred points! *big smile*

And hooray for a new family tradition!!
