As has been my tradition for four years now, this post -- probably uninteresting to anyone not named Anarchist_Nomad -- is a quick summary of the relevant statistics for 2008. Admittedly, I should have done this about a week ago... but better late than never!

NOTES:
[1] In decreasing order of time: United Kingdom and United States.

[2] In chronological order from first entry: New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio

[3] For the purposes of this entry, "long" is defined as being between 800 and 2000 miles. Even with my "Christmas-on-Wheels" extravaganza, I only had one segment that was longer than eight hundred miles. Most of the time, I drove no further than about four hundred before stopping to visit somebody.

[4] Without a doubt, 2008 was a record year for me, when it comes to theatre. I saw a show, on average, every nine and a half days! Nice!

The list of shows breaks down in the following fashion:
  • Pantomimes: 3 -- Rapunzel (Jan, Chipping Norton), Robin Hood (Dec, Birmingham Hippodrome), Sleeping Beauty (Dec, OP)

  • Shakespearean plays: 19 -- Richard II (RSC), Henry IV, part 1 (RSC), Henry IV, part 2 (RSC), Henry V (RSC), Henry VI, part 1 (RSC), Henry VI, part 2 (RSC), Henry VI, part 3 (RSC), Richard III (RSC), Measure for Measure (Creation), Twelfth Night (Lincoln College, outdoors), Twelfth Night (OSC, outdoors), As You Like It (OTG, outdoors), Much Ado About Nothing (Creation, outdoors), The Winters Tale (Shakespeare's Globe touring, outdoors), Hamlet (RSC), The Merchant of Venice (RSC), The Taming of the Shrew (RSC), A Midsummer Night's Dream (RSC), Love's Labours Lost (RSC)

  • Musicals: 3 -- Avenue Q (West End), Thoroughly Modern Millie (OP), Chess (OP)

  • Other: 13 -- The Rivals (OP), A Trip to Scarborough (OP), Plaza Suite (OP), Educating Agnes (OP), London Assurance (OP), The 39 Steps (OP), Improbably Fiction (Abingdon), Animal Farm (Creation, outdoors), Lucky You (OP), The Woman In Black (OP), Noises Off (OP), Liberty (OP), Hans Christian Anderson (Creation, Mirror Tent)
Which makes the Oxford Playhouse my most frequented venue, with thirteen shows, and the Royal Shakespeare Company's Courtyard Theatre a close runner up, with twelve shows.

Wow that is alot of activities. You SCUBA and skydive? how cool.

And DAMN you used to fly alot. I'm assuming for work, but I could be wrong of course. It happens. ;-) Happy new Year!

*grin* Thanks! I try!

And, yes, I do both SCUBA diving and skydiving. Though, as you can see, not all that often. Looks like 2009 is likely to be a SCUBA year for me. :-)

As for the flying? Well, I do call myself "Nomad", yes? *wink* It's a balance between work and pleasure, really. Which is how life should be! I'm hoping that 2009 has more flights in it than 2008. Odds are good -- I've already had my first flight (Chicago to London) and in less than a week, I am off to Japan!

Happy [Belated] New Year to you, too, sweetie! Sorry I wasn't able to see you whilst I was in Staten Island (X-mas schedule too packed!), but hope to see you when I return to the States later this year! Either in NYC or at Starwood!

You haven't put 'Number of times Bohemian Rhapsody played' on your list. Why is this? The world demands an answer!

There are some things that Humanity does not need to know! ;-D

(By the way, twas lovely to see you again this weekend! Even if I did repeatedly startle you inadvertently! *big hugs*)

Is average air speed including getting to the airport, waiting at the airport(s) and the flight, or some combination thereof?

Zero International trips in 2008? Er? Did i miss something(s)?

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

It's a good question: Average airspeed is calculated by taking the estimated number of miles flown in a year and dividing by 8760 for most years (8784 for 2008, due to the leap day). So only the travel off of the ground is counted.

As for how I go to zero international trips in 2008, take a look at the comment below by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] perspicacious for your answer. :-)

Nifty! Charts are such fun - statistics is the part of maths that i grok. I understand, and can do, other mathy things, but stats are my 1st love.

Yay for all the theater! Plus, more international trips on the horizon this year, yes? And are you not counting trips between your home countries as international travel?

I love that you made a chart. Awesome!

By the way, you are TOTALLY in trouble for getting "Time After Time" stuck in my head.

From: [identity profile] anarchist-nomad.livejournal.com

Yay, indeed, for theatre! I doubt that I will be able to top the sheer numbers in 2009 -- especially with the increase in international travel -- but I'll make a good go at it! (After all, any excuse to see more theatre!)

And, yes, you are quite right: I decided not to count trips between home countries as international travel. Very perceptive of you![*]

I'm grinning wildly that you like my chart! Nice to have one's innate uber-geekiness appreciate! *grins wildly*

As for the earworm? Seems only fitting. I've currently got "Karen By Night" stuck in my head! ;-) (Mainly because I've been listening to the Awesometacular Amalgam recently!)

[*] Remind me to kiss you for that later. What can I say? You are quite sexy when you are being clever! Also, after paying off some of our "tab" of owed kisses, et cetera last month, tis good to start racking up a new "bill." *wink*

Your theater numbers for 2008 are rather impressive, after all. I, likewise, am unlikely to see as much theater this next semester as I did during fall 2008 (although it is due to that whole grad school thing for me *grin*).

Of course I appreciate your uber-geekiness! It's one of my favorite things ever. And occasions of uber-geekiness merit adding to the kissing tab, I think. *wink*

I'm glad you're enjoying the mix! Although, apologies for the earworms...

How come I never get to see you when you're in the NY/NJ area? (For that matter, how come I often don't find out that you're going to be here until after you've been and gone?) My husband, a fellow Stony Brook alumnus, would like to meet you.

Don't know. I often post my travel schedule in advance of a trip. I didn't for Dec 2008, I know, but...

Here is advance warning: Next NYC trip is likely to happen next July. (Also, your delightful daughter-in-law generally knows where I am. You could lean on her to tell you...)

From: [identity profile] acelightning.livejournal.com

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing in July, so that leaves the possibilities open ;-D

And thanks for letting me know that I can blackmail ask [livejournal.com profile] squeektoy42 about your wherebouts ;-D
