In between Florida and Utah, I got to enjoy one full week at home! Doesn't sound like much, I know, but when sandwiched between two 3-week trips, I'll take what I can get. Here's the week in review:

Sunday: Arrived home at night. Got picked up by [livejournal.com profile] langs_place, decompressed with my babies, and went to bed.

Monday: Meant to sleep in to recover. Instead, I had to go in to work "early" (i.e. before noon) to deal with travel paperwork for the trip to Salt Lake City. Also, the Moof's car wouldn't start. We thought that it might be a problem, but wanted to tend to the obvious before calling Triple-A. So we bought a gallon of gas and, after putting it in his car, it started fine. Turns out he had been running on fumes when driving home, and was lucky to get home at all Sunday night. After work, I went into the city to attend the CAAAC meeting. "CAAAC" = "Chicago Anarchist Anti-authoritarian Autonomous Coalition." Stupid name, I know. And I'm tired of Anarchist groups whose names end in "AC." I've belonged to PAC, MAC, and CAAAC. And I know about FRAC and NEFAC. Ugh. We need a new name -- no one in CAAAC really likes this one. It is a camel: a horse that was designed by committee. Anyway, names aside, this was the first CAAAC meeting since the March 20 anti-war demos. Since CAAAC was assembled to plan a [highly successful] M20 demo, this meeting was important for assessing where we go now, as a group. Small attendance, but we made a good start. After the meeting, I drove jennie and Liberte home and chatted with them for awhile. Came back to the Event Horizon and got a good night's sleep.

Tuesday: Stayed home from work to tend to errands. Feel guilty? Hell no -- not after all the work I did in Argentina! Also, I had a very long phone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] resourceress. This was good, as we hadn't gotten to talk enough while I was travelling. In the evening, [livejournal.com profile] langs_place came over. I made dinner while she did her homework. Overall, a pretty mellow evening.

Wednesday: Went to work. Attended an interesting colloquium on "The Next Big Thing" in technology, given by a guy who works a company that predicts these things. Another mellow evening with [livejournal.com profile] langs_place; this time we went out to dinner with the Moof.

Thursday: Spent the evening at home playing GO with the Moof. In the interests of time, we played on a reduced board of 9x9, instead of the usual 19x19. The full game usually takes us about three hours; the reduced games took about 20 minutes each. The Moof clobbered me in the first game, which was not surprising. He has been practicing, and I hadn't played in six weeks. Second game, I won; apparantly, I had just needed a warm-up. Third game, he won but it was close. The interesting thing about the 9x9 games is that the board is too small to allow mistakes. One goof and you're probably finished.

Friday: Lang and I were going to see the primere screening of Dominatrix Waitrix, a "sci-fi queer sex romp video" which jennie and Liberte both have roles in. However, Lang didn't have anything to wear to the Benefit Gala, so we ended up passing on those plans. Instead, we got tickets to a production of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windemere's Fan. Excellent show -- I love Oscar Wilde! And it really was quite a polished performance. I gave the two lead actresses a standing ovation. After the show, Lang and I had a nice long talk about many things.

Saturday: After sleeping in, I took Lang for a tour of the lab. It really is so unlike what your average person would think of when you mention a particle physics laboratory. I showed her the buffalo, we walked around the art gallery, saw the "broken symmetry" sculpture, and we went up the high-rise to get an "bird's-eye" view of the grounds. We were going to do the four mile walk around the ring, but we were growing short on time. Amusing note: While I was showing Lang around the 15th floor of the high-rise, we ran into a friend of the Moof... who was showing the lab off to his girlfriend! New girlfriend, apparantly, as the Moof didn't know that this friend had a gf. Anyway, it was a funny coincidence, because the four of us were the only people on the entire floor. Saturday night, we had people over for games. There were eight of us, and we played Wise and Otherwise, Settlers of Catan, Lord of the Fries, and Munchkin. I won't go into detail, since the evening was already described by [livejournal.com profile] elision here. The absence of [livejournal.com profile] cheshcat was definitely felt -- we toasted her at 11pm, and I was happy when she called around midnight.

Sunday: During the afternoon, I played GO with the Moof again. This time, we played on an 11x11 board. Doesn't sound much larger than 9x9, but it gives you 50% more playing space. You can make errors without necessarily being out of the game. We only played one game, which I won by a healthy margin. He definitely improved while I was out of town, learning new tactics. However, I seem to have learned from him on the fly and was quickly able to devise counters for them. In the evening, Lang made an "Easter dinner" at her and [livejournal.com profile] elision's apartment. The Moof and I attended, as did [livejournal.com profile] polymorphism, Mike, and [livejournal.com profile] da_pupdetz. There was a chicken, which Lang and I cannot eat, and several vegetarian side dishes. All very yummy. Dessert was brought by [livejournal.com profile] polymorphism: derby pie and teatime tassies. Also delicious, especially the derby pie! After dessert, Lang packed for her trip to Florida while [livejournal.com profile] elision and I played more GO. We, too, played 11x11 games -- two of them. He trounced me during the first game; I made one big mistake which allowed him to surround and kill my entire structure of stones. After that, I resigned. In the second game, he made several small mistakes, which I was able to exploit to produce a strong victory: Final score was 29 to -9. After tallying the score, I felt that I had to explain the first game results to Lang, so it wouldn't look like I was clearly the better player (because I'm not). Then we all headed off to bed; I slept over at Lang's place.

Monday: After Lang and I woke up ([livejournal.com profile] elision is insomniac and had not slept), we all headed out. [livejournal.com profile] elision went off to work, while Lang and I prepared to depart on our separate journeys: Her to Florida and me to Utah.

And that there is the news! Not a bad week at all, if I do say so myself...
