Okay, I'm a foof. After commenting yesterday that I would not have email for the week, thanks to an SSH-hostile firewall, [livejournal.com profile] elision gave me a way to get access through his home server. However, I turned that route down because a colleague had shown me a java-based SSH client that could get through using HTTP. So I've been using it all day, when I've had free time, to catch up on my email. And now, at the end of the day, I find out that the firewall had been opened up today to allow SSH to pass. Whoops! Shows what I know. Apparantly a popular uprising had led to a successful (if exceedingly small) revolution here...

In other developments relating to my adaption to British life, I found out that I can use an Argentinian power cord adapter here if I employ a little trick first. Which means that I can utilize electricity again -- how nice! (Sorry, I'm no primitivist)
