This entry is really intended as more of a mishmash of random announcements, rather than coherent journaling. So, without further ado, here goes:
#1) I am leaving Pune in three and a half hours to head towards Mumbai. Tomorrow morning, I will fly home from Mumbai, where I will meet
cheshcat at Midway and, if the Flight Gods smile upon us and do not delay my arrival from Mumbai, we will then fly down to Key West together to celebrate the eleven year anniversary of our relationship. Eleven years... Wow.
#2) Since I will be traveling and then vacationing, I expect to be away from my email until our return to Chicago next Monday. Furthermore, the machine that I receive my email on is not currently accepting remote log-ins. Therefore, I have not been able to access my email for the past two days. The computer that has the email server is clearly up, as I am able to access the web page that it hosts, as well as any files that I put in my public area. I have sent email about the problem and hope it will be fixed by the time I return, but if you haven't gotten email from me lately, now you know why.
#3) I have closed off my LJ entry on the Hiroshima anniversary to new comments. This is not intended as a slight against any person. However, I saw the interaction there moving towards a general political discussion of the A-bomb and that was not my intent in making the post. I have let all of the previous comments stand, but no new comments will be posted. Again, this is not directed at you, so please do not take offense.
#4) On Saturday night, I went to an recital of Indian dance. On Sunday, I went out of Pune on a sightseeing bus to visit a temple, a fortress, a telescope array, and a winery. On Tuesday, I hired a cab and went sightseeing in Pune to see Ghandi's ashes, a palace, a meditation house, two museums, a destroyed palace, and a cave temple. It was a lot of fun and I shot many photographs. I would like to post more about this now, but I do not have time. Hopefully I will post more about it -- including links to some pictures -- next week. Knowing me, however, the odds are about 50/50 that I will get around to it.
#5) Next month will be ten years since I went skydiving... and five years since my last unsuccessful attempt to jump again. (In 2000, I made three attempts, all of which were thwarted by bad weather) I do not intend to let more than a decade go by between jumps, so I am scheduling a jump for the Labor Day holiday (Mon Sep 05). If anyone would like to join me and is willing to shell out about $180 to do so, please let me know and I will reserve an extra slot for you.
Okay, that's all for now. Time to get lunch, hit the afternoon talks, photograph Pune Universtiry, then leave for Mumbai...
[ADDENDUM (16:33) -- I just did the math and realized that from the time I leave Pune in half an hour until the time I expect to pull into Momwitch's driveway in Key West will be about forty-three hours. This will make it my longest plane trip ever, due to the stops in Italy and Chicago, beating out my Malargue to Tempe trip in March, which was thirty-five hours door-to-door. Feh. Forty-three hours is the same amount of time that I was in jail last year. There's a good reference point. At least I will sleep more, my shoulders will hurt less, and the food will be better...]
