Honestly, the quality of pub food varies considerably. There are definitely the "bad fried foods" variety. On the other hand, The Trout (http://www.thetroutoxford.co.uk/), in Northern Oxford, or The Black Boy (http://www.theblackboy.uk.com/), here in Headington, serve excellent fare.
At the Eagle & Child, I usually get the vegetarian bangers & mash. Quite tasty! However, for vegetarian fare, the best pub in town is unequivocally The Gardener's Arms (http://theveggieblog.co.uk/2012/07/22/the-gardeners-arms-oxford-the-garden-kitchen/), in Jericho. It's a vegetarian pub, so I have a hard time selecting what I want, knowing I can eat anything on the menu!
Also, unrelated, I would love to see the picture from Beltane Past. By all means, please do scan and send when you have a chance! Thanks!
