They are working on detection methods for West Nile virus... in fact, a test method is used on all blod donations through Lifesource (with of course the questions as well) to try and limit West Nile risk. Unfortunately, there is nothing defined that they can test for currently in order to detect Mad Cow disease, and the blood history with HIV has everyone skiddish.
