Good morning, gentle readers! I hope that your week is off to an excellent start! If not yet, though, the following may help bring a smile to your Monday.

I do not usually use my journal to report on news stories. In general, I trust my friends to gather their own news through the media of their choice. However, I now make an exception, as the headline that I just read is too good to miss! I would have expected to see it featured in The Onion or The Daily Mash. But, no, this is coming at you direct from the New York Times:

Y.M.C.A. Is Downsizing to a Single Letter

Need I say more? Sometimes truth really is stranger sillier than fiction!

Due to an unexpected turn of events, I ended up ringing tonight in Cowley, which is a new church tower for me -- the eleventh that I have rung at thus far. Huzzah!

There is much more that could be said of recent days... but I believe that now is the time for all things packing to start happening.[*] In just over six hours, I leave to begin the four week multi-state Nomad 2010 Summer US Tour!

In lieu of an actual entry, then, let me just say a couple of quick bits:
  • Quick Bit the First: Chicago people -- remember that this Saturday is the annual Event Horizon Summer party! Firewalking, Mega-Death Four Square, and more! And, according to the forecast[**], the temperature is supposed to top out at 90 degress, with only a 20% chance of rain! Can't wait to see you there!

  • Quick Bit the Second: For those of you funky Pagans planning to hit Brushwood's SummerFest, I am heading out that way after recovering from the party, sometime on Sunday. Depending on how soon that happens, I expect to complete the eight hour drive late Sunday evening or sometime Monday morning.

  • Quick Bit the Third: For those of you funky Pagans planning to hit the Sooper Sekrit Oktober Gathering, know that the invites have been drafted up by your dashing Co-Presidents (i.e., my beloved [livejournal.com profile] cheshcat and myself) and will be going into the mail later this week. We decided to have me send them from the States to save loooooooooots of postage! It won't happen this trip[***], but I will see you soon on the Wiggly Bridge!

  • Quick Bit the Fourth: Tomorrow is the closing day for the Greatest English Hero poll. After that, we go into run-offs! I can feel a shiver now! If you have not yet voted, have at it! With forty-seven votes counted, it looks like first and second place will be a decided between King Arthur and Robin Hood. Third will be chosen by a poll between the third place legend (currently Queen Boudicca) and anyone within one standard deviation of the number of votes she received (currently Jack the Ripper and Sherlock Holmes). Round one ends tomorrow -- so don't wait!

Getting very excited now! It's been over half a year since I last went home and I am very much looking forward to this trip!

[*] Similarly, if I owe you an e-mail or an LJ comment, it may not happen for a spell for precisely this reason!

[**] Which you can choose to believe or not, as you like!

[***] What with it being an October gathering and all!
