This is what I get for mentioning swine flu in an irreverent way in my last entry. About an hour ago -- just before midnight -- I learned that my meeting in Japan this week has been canceled. Good to know now... as I was intending to leave for the airport in about nine hours. Oi! I've never seen anything like this before, in over a decade as a travelling physicist!
The cause of this upheaval? That's right -- swine flu! The first three cases in Japan were found today, causing heavier restrictions on travel. Ridiculous? Of course it is!
Looks like the meeting is being moved to July. In the morning, I can start figuring out how to get these changes sorted in my diary. Meanwhile, I need to call the airline and change my tickets. On the plus side, it looks like I will get to see the stage production of Little Shop of Horrors that is only playing this week and I will also get to go to London BiFest next weekend...
