Seven years ago, right now, I was heading out of the Adirondack House (where
cheshcat and Adam-Man and I lived) to make a middle-of-the-night mad dash to Staten Island to pick up my passport. In the morning, I would get picked up for my first work trip to Japan -- I had been there once before, briefly, as a tourist -- where I would stay for three months. However, for months I had assumed my passport was in the drawer of important papers and was rudely surprised around 1am when that turned out to be untrue. After a thorough house search (or two),
cheshcat and RRG and I realized it was nowhere to be found and woke my parents up. Turned out, my father had never given it back to me after our last family vacation... prompting the late night eight mile drive to Staten Island (and another eighty miles back again). Thankfully, everything worked out okay in the end!
That trip to Japan, seven years ago today, started me on the nomadic lifestyle which I still continue to lead. By the end of 2005, I will have been on thirty-three airplane trips and will have spent more than half of the year away from the Event Horizon. I do not expect to live this lifestyle forever but, for now, it is a grand adventure.
Last year, I also noted this anniversary here.
