Trying out a new LJ rule for myself: If I don't write about it within seven days, I'm going to give up writing about it at all, or cover it only in an extremely brief synopsis. Too many LJ entries have been floating around in my head (e.g. Congenial, Earthships, Yule-to-Imbolc) that haven't made it to virtual paper yet, and I'm only falling further behind.

That said, here is my synopsis of what's been going on since I returned to the States: )

Today, the big news is that I have a new office. After a year and a half of working out of the Fermilab village -- which is the equivalent of being exiled to a small outpost in the middle of nowhere -- I finally have an office in the high rise! I'm on the sixth floor, with a room facing the outside of the building. This means that I have a great view of the surrounding trees and the lake, plus copious sunlight streams in through the floor-to-ceiling window. It is gratifying to finally be based in the heart of the lab, rather than on its outskirts. Also, I am on the West side, so I will be graced with many sunsets here. I like sunsets very much, so this is a very happy-making thing. The weather is remarkably clear today, so the first of those sunsets may be upon me in just a little while now.
