My plans to get a good night's sleep were foiled by a phone call at 9:30am from a friend who needed a favor. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.

After executing the favor, I headed into the city with some friends to participate in a driving/walking tour of radical sites on the Chicago West Side. The tour, organized by Mess Hall, was very interesting: We visited was the building where Fred Hampton and Mark Clark were assassinated. We toured a neighborhood decimated by riots after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Lots of history...

When the tour was over, we had intended to participate in a skillshare on worm composting and graywater. However, [livejournal.com profile] classrevolution was having chest pains -- so we went to the emergency room instead. An EKG and a chest x-ray show no cardiac problems, but we're all still pretty worried and waiting to see what a full examination by a general practitioner reveals.

Although we missed the skillshare, we got out of the hospital with enough time to make it to a candlelight vigil for May Molina, a Chicago activist killed by the police this past May. Unfortunately, no one besides us showed up for the vigil -- not even the action's organizers. So we only stayed for a short while, then went home and made dinner.

After dinner, The Moof and I taught LabRat and [livejournal.com profile] classrevolution how to play Carcassanne. They took to it rather quickly, and for quite some time it was a close game. Eventually, I won with [livejournal.com profile] classrevolution coming in second.

Bedtime now. In the morning, I will bring my travelling friends on a short tour of the lab... then drive them West to meet the person who will be driving them up to their next stop: Madison, Wisconsin. It's been a most enjoyable visit.
