Been home again since late Saturday evening. Georgia was definitely a mixed experience. There were some very good things there; most notable were the other Anarchists -- I exchanged contact info with many excellent people. We also executed a few actions that turned out rather well.
Unfortunately, there were also some very messed up aspects of the summit demonstrations. Most disturbing was the obvious police state -- $35,000,000 was spent on 20,000 law enforcement personnel for about 500 demonstrators. It is also worth noting that the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 was violated as we were confronted with the troops of the US Army.
Near the end of the summit, the Brunswick Sheriff must have felt his manhood diminished by the fact that he needed all this help to handle a few hundred peaceful protesters. So, in order to prove that he still had a penis, his crew arrested two Anarchists, including one that I had been traveling with, for doing jail support work. Later that night, another woman was arrested when she went to the detention center to bail out a friend. How messed up is that? Yet most people I know are still blissfully unaware that the fascist state is already upon us.
Right now, six days later, there are still ten people languishing in a Brunswick jail -- just because they refuse to give their names. Not cool at all, especially when you consider that their charge is "disorderly conduct," which usually carries no more than a night in prison in Brunswick.
