Day 68: An Open Letter
Dear Universe,
Being Egyptian, I make it a point to be well read and knowledgeable on plagues. George Santayana and "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" and all that. I know about the waters turning to blood, I can discourse on the unhealable boils, I am familiar with the frogs. I consider myself to have taken all reasonable precautions where plagues are concerned.
Why, then, do I find myself afflicted of late with a plague of idiots and assholes? Have I not learned enough of the past? Is it simply my unavoidable destiny as an Egyptian? I am Jewish, too, you know! Personally, I would have preferred some treefrogs, myself -- they are so cute!
Anyway, I will hope that the recent deluge is deemed sufficient and that the current plague will abate shortly. If not, I may have to rescind my current attitude of polite tolerance and begin to respond by smiting. No one really likes unnecessary smiting, so perhaps a dry spell is in order where idiots and assholes are concerned?
Thank you for your time and for your kind consideration of this matter.
Best regards,
Nomad
[N.B. Dear friends, do bear in mind that this entry is directed at a trend and not at any specific individual. So please do not believe that it was written about you. If, despite my disclaimer, you insist on persisting in taking my comments personally, the most productive course of action may be to contemplate what you might have done... then use the results of your meditations to become a better person. Do not make loud and obnoxious comments here; as you may gather from the above text, my usually magnanimous patience is quite thin today. Smiting will ensue if the Nomad is provoked.]

Since you're Jewish, shouldn't the plague be wrought upon your enemies? That's just not fair!
Have some anti-idiot cream - hope it clears up soon.

What this means is that, thousands of years ago, my ancestors oppressed and tormented and enslaved my ancestors! It's a wonder I don't hate myself or try to beat myself up or something![**]
Anyway, thank you muchly for the anti-idiot cream, m'dear! I suspect that it shall not be lacking for use! *grin*
[*] Father's side of the family is Egyptian. Coptic Christian, in fact, which are the descendants of the ancient Egyptians... as opposed to the Arabs who moved in later. Mother's side of the family is Jewish.
[**] Maybe this explains how I ended up as a switch? *wink*
