Heh -- no, punting as in pushing a narrow boat, known as a punt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punt_(boat)) along the river.

It is a popular warm weather passtime in both Oxford and Cambridge. Though your meaning -- procrastinating from work -- is also often true of a person who is punting! ;-)

Things might be open on a Sunday. I should check. Staying over for an extra day is not a bad idea a'tall, really. Oxford needs more than one day to see it properly. I should check with [livejournal.com profile] cheshcat, but it would probably be fine to put you up in our guest room at Skullcrusher Mountain[*].
