Slept in with
resourceress today. After a late breakfast, she and
cheshcat and I drove into the city to ascend the Sears Tower. Yeah, I know it is a tourist thing to do... but in two and a half years of living in Chicagoland, I had never done it before. Since I am moving away in six days, I figured it is now or never... and I didn't want it to be never.
As a native New Yorker, I am no stranger to the view from the top of tall buildings. Although I hated their architecture, I frequently brought friends, visitors, and dates up the Twin Towers when they were still standing. I didn't like the buildings, but I loved the view from the top. And, heck, from up there, you did not have to look at the buildings themselves. Once WTC #1 and #2 collapsed, the Empire State Building became the observatory of choice for this role.
We had a good time at the Sears Tower. The wait was a bit long and I was disappointed that you could not actually go outside. At the Empire State, you can observe from both inside and out... and at the WTC you could go onto the actual roof. Still, it was nice to get an aerial view of the city that has served as my latest home. And, as architectural aesthetics go, the Sears Tower beats the heck out of the old Twin Towers (of course, the Empire State beats 'em both!).
Now, in a couple of minutes,
resourceress and I are heading out to get dinner at M&C's house. M is out of town, at a conference, but this will be the last time that I get to see C before I move. Since M&C are dear friends, and amongst the first that I made once I moved here, this will make for a pleasant evening. The fact that C is an astounding cook doesn't hurt, either!
P.S. As an epilogue to Friday's entry, I should mention that I spoke to my lawyer today and declined to accept NYC's settlement offer in my lawsuit against the city.
